Filton is four miles from Bristol city centre via Gloucester Road and is located on the northern outskirts of Bristol (A38) close to the M4/M5 interchange, extending between the Bristol and South Gloucestershire counties where most homes date back to the 1930s. Many of the townhouses and apartments that used to be council housing have been replaced in the last decade. Although it’s a family neighbourhood, UWE (University of West England) students who desire quick access to the city also like it there. You can find lots of information about student living and courses at UWE HERE.
Let’s explore…..
Filton has an aerospace connection dating back to the establishment of the Bristol Aeroplane Company. Said aerospace companies include BAE Systems, Airbus, GKN, Rolls-Royce and MBDA, all located around the former Aerodrome. Concorde Alpha Foxtrot is the star attraction at Aerospace Bristol, the aviation museum on the site of the former airfield (which was the home of the assembly line for the British-built Concorde).
There are some magnificent, big open spaces in the area, such as Elm Park and Filton Leisure Centre or Monks Park – with some ‘pawfect’ dog-friendly pubs nearby: Inn on the Green, The Gloucester Old Spot, The Crafty Cow & The Beehive (courtesy of Bristol Barkers). The Filton Golf Club is a gorgeously kept, difficult parkland course with great practice facilities and a welcoming clubhouse. Filton offers both guests and visitors a very warm and delightful experience while being primarily a private members’ club.
